Don't know if you've seen or heard, but you can now access Hotmail on your iPhone!
I've just set mine up and all I had to enter was my user name and password and it got the rest of the settings automatically. If you need the manual settings, they're on this post on the blog. http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/blog/mobi...our-mobile.htm Turns out Microsoft finally enabled POP access for all Hotmail accounts, so you can now access Hotmail from anywhere, not just the web/wap site. I have carefully followed all these instructions to install a new mail account in my iphone for hotmail but ever time I click save I receive the message `The user name or password for "pop3.live.com" is incorrect' and yet I know these to be correct as I have just used them to login to hotmail on my computer.

hmm, thats odd then.
on your iphone, use safari to navigate to mail.live.com and check you can log in there. it might pay to type your password in notes and then copy and paste it into the password field of the settings. I've had similar problems before and it was because I'd mistyped it, but not realised. |

Hi Spenbeck, I don't use Hotmail personally but created an account to test it and it worked fine. I have had a look using Google and here are some options you could try...
Firstly Make sure your iPhone is updated... Next Clear all the cache from safari... Go to settings >> Safari >>> Clear Cookies and Clear Cache Next check to ensure you are fully logged out of hotmail of your PC you need to click the Sign Out button otherwise it will think your still logged in. You may wish to clear all the cache, cookies and history from your pc which will ensure your logged out... Now Try again and keep us posted ![]()

ha - should follow my own advice - I'd mistyped the password. deleted it and tried it again and it connected straight away:
so to confirm what i did: *settings *mail contacts calendar *add account *other *add mail account *name - my name *address - myemail@hotmail.com *password - my password (pasted in from notes) *description - hotmail *save short delay while it looks up server info if asked for more details: *hostname pop3.live.com *username myemail@hotmail.com *password - pasted from notes *outgoing smtp.live.com username and password blank you might need to use o2's smtp server if it won't send. on the advanced tab: *remove after one week *use SSL - on *authenticaion - password *delete from server - when removed from inbox *server port 995 that should be it all done. |

It Shouldn't be a port problem as you are actually receiving a message however it's always worth a try!
So Click Settings >> Mail, Contacts, Calenders >> click the account for your hotmail >> scroll down and click Advanced >> Then make sure its all like this: ![]() Here is a bit more info for you How to setup Hotmail on iPhone? - Mail and Settings - Windows Live Help Mark

Just thought too make sure the username and password isn't adding caps when you adding the account info as sometimes it auto turns Caps on for the first letter!

Hi Mark,
Those instructions on WindowsLiveHelp were the 1st ones I tried, when they would not respond to my query I found your post. Once again I have painstakingly followed every step, copying and pasting password etc. but all to no availa. I know you have tried hard to help but there is obviously some bug in this 'phone. I keep getting the same message every single time. Thanks anyway. |

Damn! Only other thing I can think you do is perhaps plug your iphone in sync it so its all backed up then restore it and try then. Otherwise I cant think what it could be.

Hi Mark,
Just thought I would let you know the final outcome; I managed to get in touch with WindowsLive by email and they suggested I change my password to a weak 123456 as a test. I did this and it worked, however, when I then changed my password back to its original (a simple combination of numbers and letters) it would not work again. I then did the obvious thing and changed the password to a different combination of numbers and letters and it worked again. So for some reason unknown to anyone Hotmail simply did not like my original password when used on the iphone, although it was quite happy with it on the PC. So for future reference the advice should be just try changing your password. Many thanks for all your time and assistance. Regards Spenbeck |

As Andy says Wow what an odd way to fix the problem! They say you learn something everyday! I will store this in my memory for the next time something strange like this happens! Thanks for getting back to the forum Spenbeck to give us your update
