Just seen a review for this on the blog part of the site. Gives a good insight into how it works.

I've got the N82 and I cant get maps v.30 to work at all on it, keep getting an error message during installation so I'm guessing Nokia still have a few bugs to iron out.
It might be worth checking to see which connection it's trying to use.. If your default connection is set to Wi-Fi and there is no Wi-Fi signal, this could be what's causing your problem. If you can try manually setting the connection to your Mobile network (if you've got an unlimited data plan) |

Hi Andy, thanks for your speedy reply - as always. Normally what happens when an application tries to go on line is it asked by what method ie Wifi or mobile network - Maps does not ask me. I have tried it both at home where I have Wifi or outdoors where I would expect it to pick up a mobile signal but to no avail.
Not sure how I would set it up to manually to connect to my mobile network. (BTW I have the 30p a day all you can eat from Virgin) |

OK, that took a lot longer than it should have, but finally managed to get v3 running on the phone.
The settings have changed considerably to version 2, so you can't specify which connection method to use, but the shop opened without a problem on this one. You'll need to make sure that your phone is set to go online at start up though as I think this could be causing your problem. To set the phone to go online at start up -> Options -> Settings -> Tools -> Internet -> Go Online at start up -> Yes If you want to manually go online each time you launch maps leave it set to no and then press Options -> Tools ->Go online. Maps is heavily internet based, so I'd recommend setting it to go online automatically. Let me know how you get on Andy |

Hi Andy, no what ever I do it comes up with "No internet connection, Select Options>Tools>Go Online to go online". I just get stuck in an endless loop. Even though the phone is able to go online with the browser etc.
I have Network Destination set to Internet in Tools>Settings>Internet |

Hi Andy, well its show as Go Online but when I use this option I just get stuck in the same loop No internet connection, Select Options>Tools>Go Online to go online"
Anyway I appreciate all your help on this but I think we are up against a brick wall with it. I think I will have to admit defeat and just use Maps off line. |

I have just read here thatNokia 5800 News: Firmware upgrade to V31.0.008 | Nokia 5800 Blog there is a new firmware upgrade but it is not yet available in all countries. Perhaps it might help when I can utilise it. However I cant remember how to find out what version I am running - there is a code to enter on the keypad thats then tells you the version number - would you happen to know what this is?
