Default Yahoo Fire Eagle

I think this belongs here, just came across this new offering from Yahoo (well new to me) and was trying to think how it benefits people, so I thought I'd share it with you all.

Fire Eagle

It appears to be a method of logging your location to share with others, a bit like an opt in personal tracking system, now maybe I've read too many "Big brother is watching you" books but I am having great difficulty in seeing why anyone would want to do this?..

What do you think?.

Parents may be able to use it to track their kids, although it depends how much detail it is... may be handy if you know your going to go on a big drinking session so that if you end up getting lost you can always locate people on it. although you may be too drunk to do so..

Ah just thought of one.. on one of those "lets waste lots of daddy and mommys money" round the world globe trotting trips that all the rich kids seem to take these days.. this would be a good way of providing locational data for the messages back home.

mmm.. think I am sounding a little bitter and twisted this morning.. time for coffee.

Interesting. Only for the parents. I would not want to be tracked by it though.

Of course the kids wouldn't want to be tracked by it, but the parents would probably welcome it, and would therefore pay the premium for the service.. The provider has their income, and the parents provide the demand.. sorted!
