Angry Extended Battery - HTC TyTN II with Back Cover - 2800mAh

I have recently bought the Extended Battery - HTC TyTN II with Back Cover - 2800mAh but it does not appear to last any longer than the standard 1350mAh battery!

I can usually get 4-5 hours out of the standard battery whilst using the GPS and Memory Map for walking navigation and geocaching. On like for like tests since receiving, the extended battery it seems to last about the same time as the standard whereas I thought it would last about twice as long!

Has anybody else got experience of this battery in action, is this typical? if so I may as well return it and have it replaced by a genuine HTC standard battery, at least then I will not have to suffer the extended back which also does not fit in my car's Brodit holder.

Cheers

Mike

It can take a few (4/5) charging cycles before a battery can reach its optimum performance.

Have you tried running it down completely flat and then charging fully? Do this a couple of times and if its still no better let me know

Andy

Thanks Andy,

I think I have only charged it two or three times so far so I will give it a few more goes and see if things improve.

BTW ... is there a Brodit holder for these HTC Tytns with extended backs?

Hi Mike, we do get asked for them quite often, but Brodit don't do anything for them as yet.

I'm guessing this is down to there being so many 3rd party extended batteries available that are all different sizes.

I've just checked with them again and its not something they're planning on releasing.

Default Update:

The phone was been loaded with the 100% charge 2800mHA battery supplied after your last post at 18:30 tonight and left on the windowsill with blue tooth, GPS and Wi-Fi switched on and Memory Map running showing my home location to drain the battery.... at the time of this posting 3 hours later the battery is showing 14% full....Not impressed ... so far

When exhausted I will re-charge and try again with just GPS and Memory Map or Tom Tom which is my main reason for the extended battery as the phone which is brilliant with these features but just need longer battery life when I am out in the field

This will be the fourth time of charging! .. watch this space!

Wow, 4 hours on stand-by definately doesnt seem right to me. I' know you've had applications running, but even so it should last longer than that.

Let me know how it goes with this last charge, and if no improvement we'll get it swapped over.

Twice more I have fully charged and depleted the battery...

On Wednesday used Tom Tom to navigate to and from Nottingham .. about 1.5 hours each way .. set off fully charged and when I got there 54% remaining... left phone on standby whilst there and not much change (Tom Tom off and no usage) then back home with Tom Tom and down to about 17% at 6:00pm .. left to deplete itself with GPSr on and finally gave up the ghost at 20:30.

Went to Gatesghead yesterday 2hrs each way and same scenario ... c50% left when I got there and 14% when I got back using Tom Tom and Memory Map with GPSr both ways, and nothing in between.

Battery once again fully charged .. going on the hills tomorrow for 6+hrs and using Tom Tom to get there and back..

Thumbs down Update

OK ... after more than a dozen full depletion and full recharge cycles there is no appreciable improvement in longevity of battery life
Still only getting 4-5 hrs and that's with switching the screen off between use. No better really than the standard battery which gives about the same under similar conditions/use.

Is it time I got this swapped and try another one? ... please advise
Mike

Hi Mike,

I was wondering how you were getting on - thought from the silence it was all working but guess not!

Send it back into us and we'll get a replacement sent out to you. You'll need to fill in a returns form with it, put a copy of your receipt for postage in with it and we'll reimburse it.

Normally 3/4 Charge cycles should be enough to get the battery working properly, so looks like you might just have a bad one.

Andy

I am still struggling with this battery ... but am hanging on returning it for a replacement as I need it until I can get my Brodit in car charger to work ... the 2 batteries = about 8 hours standalone .. so need the second battery until I get that charger to work again!

I have the same problem

It's more linked to hardware problem on both battery and phone - the signals the battery send are being misinterpreted. There is a converting fixed table on both core that reflects the decrease in battery voltage and returning how much percent its represents of the charge life.

what i do , is when the battery reaches 1% , i replace the battery after shutting the phone down, and start up again.. The battery will be at 50 % again.. Thats the only solution

Default Return of Battery

Hi there,
Am I still ok to return this battery for a replacement.
I have held off as I can't really do without it at weekends when I am out and about geocaching especially as my MDA Vario III has stopped charging in the car.

I have just placed an order for a std replacement battery so when that arrives I can return this extended battery for replacement

Please advise

Regards

Mike

Hi Mike,

Yes it's fine to send it back, battery has a 12 month warranty.
