Hi Angela,

We're out of stock on the handset so I can't check, but will check when they come in tomorrow

Morning Angela,

Phones are in stock again now, so lets see if we can figure this one out!

What I've done below is listed all the settings in the same order as you should see them on your phone:

Name: Hotmail
SMTP Server: smtp.o2.co.uk
SMTP Port: 25
Secure Connection: off
Incoming Server Type: POP3
POP3 Server: POP3.live.com
POP3 Port:995
APOP login: not ticked
Secure Connection: SSL
Download Limit: 500
Imap4 Incoming mail: New (this is a kinda greyed out one)
Retrieving Option: Subject Only
Keep On Server: Ticked
My Address: myemail@hotmail.com
Password: hotmail password
POP before SMTP: not checked
SMTP Auth: checked
Same as POP3/IMAP: Not Checked
Username: o2 email username
Password: O2 email password

Save

The main one to look out for here is the one i've put in bold, this is what is making you have to change the log in details each time you send/receive.

Fingers crossed, this should get you all up and running

Andy

Question

Hi there,

I am having the same problem with my Samsung Tocco F480. I have done as you posted above but I get the message "connection failed". The only thing that is different in my set up is that I have a extra box above the password but after the My address box, which says username, and i have put in my full hotmail e-mail?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Hannah,

was just replying to your email, but guess you got that sorted now!

Are you on O2 as well?

Username and email should both be the same for hotmail, so thats right..

Yeah I'm on O2 i've filled it in exactly and tried all the WAP connections as well, just in case, and still get connection failed. Any ideas?

So you can't access WAP sites or internet pages through your browser either then?

No worries

yes, if your hotmail account is a .co.uk put that, same with the o2 one, you need to put your actual o2 username in.

hmm that's odd then. I know its a slow process, but can you list on here all the settings you've got on your phone on the advanced screen?

(don't post ur email or password though!)

thats really strange then as everything is set correctly.

When you go to the email inbox and press download, is that when you're getting the error message?

Have you ever seen the screen that asks about certificate security?

I press download, and then a couple of seconds later it says "connection failed" I once got past that when it looked like i might have done it and then it said "DNS Error" I think?? Seems ages ago that that happened so not 100% sure! never got to the screen about the Certificate security yet! Could the DNS error be the problem....whatever that is?

DNS is to do with locating the email server, which might suggest that the pop3 server name is wrong.

have you tried sending an email? If not, can you try? reason being, if its a problem with the network connection, you won't be able to send or receive.

if its a problem with the incoming email server settings on the phone, then sending should still work fine as its not going through hotmail..
