OK, that helps.. a little

at least we know that its the settings on the phone now!

It might be that its trying to use the wrong internet profile to connect to the internet, I've not got one in front of me at the moment, but in the settings, there should be an option for "connect using" or profile?

If you can see that, tell me which it is - are you pay monthly or PAYG?

OK, that should be the right one, but you've got a couple of other sets on there that should work too.

try changing that to o2 mobile web, if that doesn't work try o2 pay monthly.

you definately dont want to be using MMS

this is really odd. there's no reason why its not working!

I'm not back in the office to get to a phone until tuesday, so can't really suggest much more without the phone in front of me.

The only thing I can suggest to try before tuesday is to delete it all off - the email account, and all of the wap/internet profiles from your phone and then get the wap/mms settings sent again from o2, and set the email account up again from scratch.

I'll try it first thing tuesday when i'm back in the office and see if anything else jumps out at me.

Hi there,

I found this forum through Google and have been able to set up Hotmail on my phone's email.

Am having a bit of a problem though. Every time I go into my inbox and hit download (I assume this is how you check your mail) it simply downloads the maximum amount set every time. So if it's set to 500 it get 500 mails or 25 I get 25 every time I press download.

So I'm wondering if I'm doing something completely wrong! Is there a way that it will just get the 1 or 2 new mails that I have?

Also if I actually go to the Hotmail site in my browser I can log into Hotmail, check mail, read mail and type a reply. I then get an error if I try to send the reply I've typed. Does anyone know if this is something I'm doing wrong?

Anyone got any ideas? I am VERY new to all this mobile web as I've only had it for 2 days. I don't know if it's relevant but I am on contract with o2.

One last thing...I see when I got to delete a mail I have to options delete from phone or phone and server. What is the difference?

Cheers

Nic

Hi, I can not set up my hotmail within email on my Samsung Tocco Ultra. I am with vodafone and the routes set on the phone do not follow any of the ones you have suggested.
If I go to the email wizard either through message settings of email inbox

I have a screen with 3 option, aol dot co dot uk, google dot com, aol dot com followed by other email accounts (won't let me do . as that is an web link!)
click on that and asks for account name
hotmail, next goes to email address which I niput then password, next
a screen with incoming server type (choice imap or pop3)
incoming server ?
outgoing server (stmp) ?
that is it, tried a couple of options and keeps coming back failed
no more options or questions available, tried the website set up at vodafone but that doesn't show the last steps.

Help!!!!

Ok Im back again in more need of help.
I'm trying to set up Hotmail on my ultra, have been thru this thread and many others but I still cant figure it out.

I'm on an Orange monthly contract and my settings are as below -
Account name - Hotmail
SMTP Server - smtp.live.com
SMTP Port - 25
Secure Connection - Off
Incoming server type - POP3
POP3 Server - POP3.live.com
POP3 Port - 995
APOP Login - unchecked
Secure Connection - ssl
DL limit - 500
IMAP4 - New
Retrieving Option - Subj Only
Keep on server - unchecked
My address - my name @ hotmail . com
User name - same as above
Password - my hotmail account password
POP before SMTP - unchecked
SMTP Auth - Checked
Same as POP3/IM - checked

I can download my inbox but cant reply to any or send a new email.
I get an Hotmail DNS Failed message or Hotmail:Sending failed. Message saved in outbox or...Connection failed

Does .co.uk/.com make any difference?
Should I be using smtp.orange.co.uk in there somewhere?

Pleaaaase help!!

Smudge.

Hi Smudge,

Yes, you'll need to use orange's smtp settings in order to send email.. for orange their website is saying it should be:

smtp.orangehome.co.uk

but I think that might just be for their landline one if it doesn't work try smtp.orange.net

and uncheck the smtp auth box

smtp.orange.net should work, but you might need to sign into your orange account first and set yourself up with an orange email address if you haven't already

you won't need to use that email address, only for authenticating yourself

Sorry, Didn't see this post til just now - difference between delete on phone or phone and server is that if you only delete on your phone, the email will still be there when you log into the hotmail website. If you delete from phone and server, it will be deleted from both places.

If you're getting an error trying to send an email through the hotmail web/wapsite, then its unlikely to be your phone thats causing the problem and more likely to be a problem with the hotmail website.

Hi Laura,

I think there is a problem with the vodafone network at the moment as lots of people seem to be having this problem. These settings should get it all working, and what seems to be happening is that the messages are being sent from the phone, but not being delivered to people's inboxes.

I've checked and double checked these settings and they should work fine, so next step to try after putting these in is have a word with vodafone to see if there is a fix.

I’d suggest deleting your email account completely and starting again from scratch, but without using the account set up wizard that’s on the phone

Account Name “hotmail”
SMTP Server “send.vodafone.net”
SMPT port “587″
Secure Connection OFF
Incoming e-mail server POP3
POP3 Server “POP3.live.com
POP3 port “995″
APOP login NOT TICKED
Secure Connection SSL
Download limit “300″
IMAP4 Incoming e-mail NEW
Retrieving option SUBJECT ONLY
Keep on Server TICKED
My address “mye-mail @hotmail. com”
User name “mye-mail @hotmail.com”
Password “my password”
Use POP before NOT TICKED
Use SMTP TICKED
SAME AS POP3/IMAP4 NOT TICKED
User name
Password

You need to make sure that you’re using ssl on the smtp server too. I can’t get to a tocco at the mo to see the exact wording

Hi Andy,

I'm on a Vodafone contract too, and am having problems sending email via my hotmail accounts. I've made all the settings as above (including the vodafone smtp setting) and can download all my mail, but cannot send anything. All I get is "Hotmail: No response".

Any ideas for and older user!!

Many Thanks, TT
