Hi,
Sorry, but I'm a bit of a luddite, so please be gentle! I've just been persuaded to change my old mobile phone (a basic old Sony Ericson) for a shiney new Tocco Ultra, and to be quite honest I'm a little intimidated by it!! The salesperson said it was quite simple to use, but I'm not so sure now I've got it home! My initial question is about charging the battery. Do you need to charge it for 24hrs on the initial charge, as I seem to remember you were always advised to do this some time ago? I've just plugged it in and it reckoned the charge was complete after about 30 mins. Is this sufficient? Also, If anyone has any top tips for a "Simpleton" to get the most from the phone I'd be very grateful, especially regarding the internet as I'd like to use it a lot for that. Many thanks from a Grey Hairer! |

Hi Timmy.
Don't worry about being intimidated by the phone, it's no where near as scary as it seems! The basics of how it work will be very similar to your sony ericsson, the only difference is you won't need to arrow up or down to go through your menus, you can now just touch the screen to go into the option you want. with regards to charging, no - you don't need to give it a 24 hour charge. if anything this could damage the battery. modern batteries don't have the memory effect that they used to have years ago, so you can now just charge it as and when you need to. The first one i'd say to do for about 2 hours, as although its showing full now, that will be a very quick charge that it will have been given in the factory. In terms of tips, best one i can give is don't be scared of pressing things worst case scenario, you just turn the phone off and back on again. you can't break it!Internet is fairly straight forward, if you don't get on that well with the browser that's built into the phone, navigate to mini.opera.com on the phone and download Opera Mini. I've always found it to be a bit quicker and a bit simpler to use. Andy |

Cheers for that, Andy.
I've posted the comments below on another forum but had no response. If anyone could pass comment on any of these points I'd be really grateful! I don't know if it makes any difference but I'm on a vodafone contract I find the touch screen pretty random with my chunky fingers and find it difficult to be precise. Any tips on this or is there a stylus that can be used? When texting it doesn't seem to recognise the symbol ' in predictive text. I can only find it on page 2 of the symbols. Is there a way to do this apart from having to go into the symbol pages? (Sorry, I write in sentances using proper grammar!). Also, texts always start in abc mode rather than Abc. Can this setting be changed? I read that the battery life on the Tocco Ultra was a bit disappointing, but I thought that seeing as I'm a lite user (maybe 15 mins calls a day and 10 texts) that it should be OK. Oh how wrong was I!! I'm having to recharge my battery every day. Even if I don't use it the power drops to just 2 bars. Does anyone have any power saving tips at all? The internet seems really slow (takes several mins to load a simple page), but this is the first time I've had a phone that will access it. Is this normal? Any recommends of useful downloads for it? I have read that there is a software upgrade available on the net, but Samsung warn you off installing it. What's the info on this one? Cheers everyone, I really appreciate your help. |
