So what's the difference between the C902 and the W902?

Well, the W902 is gererally a Walkman version of the C902.

W - Walkman
C - Cybershot

W's - Being Music focussed and C's being - Camera focussed (excuse the pun!)

The W902 features music dedicated keys down the side
Slightly larger
Triband, where as the C902 is Quad Band (850mhz is the extra one)
C902 has bigger internal memory but both take M2 cards.

"The W902 includes an 8GB Memory Stick Micro which lets you store more than 8000 songs."

as if, the average song is 3-4 mb. to get over 800 songs on an 8gb card they would have to be less than 1mb each, and thats either a very very short song or compressed untill its inaudable.

more realistically would be 1 - 2 thousand songs.

but the phones look really nice

EDIT - and the same for all the other memory cards, 2gb fit 2000 songs, and 512mb card fit 400 songs?
no chance.

If the music files are transferred using Sony Ericsson software and are compressed in eAAC+ format, you can get this many on the memory card. I've not tried myself, but friends have and through standard headphones there is no noticable difference in quality.

I really, really doubt that even with eAAC+ compression you would be able to fit over 8000 songs on 8gb. 8gb devices usually have around 7800mb free to use, which would make each song less than 900kb each.

Theres no way a 4 minute song can be 900kb and sound just as good as a 4000kb song. If that were right then why isnt every mp3 player around using this technology.

BTW I know I am being very stubborn about this, but it's just too impressive to be correct!

EDIT - ooh I know, get an mp3 off the internet (a free, legaly available one of course) and then convert it to eAAC+ format and the forums can decide how much the quality dips and if it is worth it

Right, experiment half done! I've just converted Black & Gold from MP3 to eAAC+ using winamp. its at 24kbps with parametric stereo - (whatever that is) and the file size is 868 kb.

I've played it on my PC using headphones and through my mobile and the sound quality is absolutely fine. No doubt for parties or blasting out on speakers the quality wil lbe no where near, but for wandering around town and annoying pensioners on the bus i'm sure it'll be dandy

Going to blast it through through the car stereo at lunchtime...

I'd post the file, but there's no way of doing it on here. PM me if you want and i'll email the file over.

I wonder what gets stripped out to make it so small.
