Default Qstik Bluetooth Headset has ... frozen

Hi,

Bought a Qstik Bluetooth headset (as per www DOT mobilefun DOT co DOT uk SLASH product SLASH 13014 DOT htm - I can post URL's on here yet) and it's been working fine for around a week.

Switched it on this morning and the blue LED on the headset has gone solid - no flashing. It doesn't make a noise (ie. when you press the function button it beeps), doesn't connect to bluetooth dongle and will NOT switch off (held the button in for around a minute but nothing). If I pop it in the charger, it does go red (it's charging) but the blue LED remains solid and still unresponsive.

The blue LED on the headset normally flashes when it's on, but as I said it's solid blue and won't respond to anything.

Suggestions on how to reset it?

Hi,

Sorry to hear you're having problems, if its not responding to any button presses, best bet is to let the battery run right down, charge it up and see if that fixes it. If it doesn't then I think you'll need to send it back in to us for an exchange.

Andy

Hi Andy,

I was hoping there was some way of hard resetting it - letting it run right down is going to take about 5 - 7 days (125 hours standby from memory).

Bluetooth headsets don't normally have a way of resetting them as the controls are so limited.

I've had a word with our customer relations team and if you would prefer to send it back now rather than to wait for the battery to die, it wouldn't be a problem.

Just fill in the returns form on the site and post it back to us - put a receipt in for the postage costs and we'll re imburse you.

Just as a quick update to this.

The reason I thought that it might have a hard reset function is that this has three buttons rather than the usual 1 button for a bluetooth headset.

I got up this morning and the headset had switched off (or at least the LED was off). Switched it back on and while it flashed the battery low light (the red LED) it DID come back on correctly. It paired fine with the dongle and I will try it now that it's charging again.

Not sure if the power failed on it and it switched off or whether it regained it's senses and switched itself off. Either way, it didn't take the estimated 125 hours to drain!

I did log a return for this and have asked to have it cancelled. If this happens again I will return it.

The problem I had has happened twice again so far. I seem to have tracked it down to how long you hold the button to start it - if you just press it quickly and leave it for 5 seconds you should see the light flash indicating that it has come on. If you hold it for 1 or 2 seconds the blue light seems to come on and stay on and you'll then have the problem above. It's simply bad firmware.

The headphones you get with it are a proprietary connection that I've never seen before. There aren't great and I'm not sure if you can get replacements. This to me shows how eager they are to lock you into their product. I don't like products that lock you in for no good reason.

I know there have been a few problems with contacting the manufacturer of it from other people (and from memory I think there are comments on the product page to that effect) which to me shows their disinterest in the product and a veiled acknowledgement that it has problems.

I wouldn't buy another one and I wouldn't recommend anybody else buy one either. It's okay as an introduction to streaming audio over bluetooth, but there are better products around.

Thumbs up Qstick

I have had my Q-stck for around 3 months and i have had the dreaded blue light. I know first hand how annoying this can be but the goods of this product far out way the bad.

The headphones i think are good they give crisp clear audio. It would make life easier if you could change them but to be honest for £15 im really not that gutted.

Easiest way to deal with the dreaded light is just to leave the headset over night and it will run out within 5 - 8 hours and then recharge it.

I think all in all this product is quality for the money and i would defo buy another.

Blueivy,
Apart from the "blue light " problem, does the headphone's other DSP features work ok?

Rob1984,
What features of the phone you like best?
The headset looks bulky,is it heavy on the ear?

Thanks guy for your comments!!!

To be honest the best part of the headset is the music streaming i travel alot for work and music always passes the time. The long battery life is also a very good feature. I never actually put the Q-stick on my ear as it is quite bulky but the headphones come with a microphone so i use that for calls. I like the volume and track skipping are also very good features.

I hope this helps

I find the noise reduction does work as i go through very busy train stations and people can hear me fine. I do think this is probably the best of its kind on the market for the money.

I hope this helps

Default Pairing Qstik EVOQ Headset to Sony PS3

Hi,

I received my Qstik EVOQ Bluetooth DSP Headset today, but cannot pair it with my Sony Playstation 3.

I set it to pairing mode (blue and green LED), search for it on PS3, it finds it, I enter the pass code (0000), it is accepted. So far so good!

Then the headset returns to ready to use mode (blue LED), before the PS3 has finished registering it. The PS3 continues to attempt to register it, but cannot, as the headset has changed from pairing mode to ready to use mode.

I have tried several times but the outcome is always the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Chris

Hi Chris,

Have you tried pairing the headset with any other devices to make sure its not a fault on the headset?

If you can, try and pair it to your phone or PC. If that works ok, then it would suggest it could be a problem with the PS3 settings..

Is your PS3 running the latest firmware?

Default Pairing Qstik EVOQ Headset to Sony PS3

Thanks for your swift response.

I have successfully paired the headset with my laptop.

My friend recently purchased the same headset, and is experiencing the same problems re PS3 pairing.

My PS3 has all the latest system updates installed (version 2.70).

That would suggest that its just not compatible with the games console then. If you've managed to get the headset working with other devices, and another headset is having the same issue its pointing more to the problem being on the PS3.

Bluetooth Compatibility for gaming consoles isn't something that we can test at the moment

I have just bought the QSTik and have yet to use it in anger. I have had a number over the years and if this does half of what is says on the tin I will be happy. One question I have is about the Stereo headphones. These have a dedicated connector but I have problems with that particular type of earpiece. Does anyone know of headphones with the same connector where you can use your own headset or do I look at getting the soldering iron out and modifying them.

Hi KC,

The connector for the headset is exclusive to this headset and as far as we're aware its not possible to use them with other earphones.

For safety reasons we wouldn't recommend attempting to modify the Qstik in anyway as it may cause injury as well as invalidate the warranty.

My Qstik froze solid this morning without apparent cause. I've just discovered how to reset it: Press and hold all the three buttons (volume up, volume down and the metalic, circular one), then release them. Once reset, it should work fine. I hope this helps.
